Fiber Optics

Fiber Internet is Coming, Don’t Miss Out!

Stratford Mutual Telephone Company is now offering internet, telephone and TV services via fiber optics in your neighborhood. Fiber optic cables are designed to carry data great distances without signal loss or interference for extremely high upload and download speeds.

Fiber What?

In order to subscribe to service from us, you will first need us to install an underground fiber drop.  A fiber drop connects a single fiber cable to larger cables from our network, and then to the side of your home or building, allowing future installation of fiber optic services to proceed seamlessly.

A fiber connection will provide you with access to virtually unlimited bandwidth capacity and internet speed. Enjoy data-intensive applications such as video streaming, online gaming, cloud storage, online education and more.

Check the Fiber Availability in Your Neighborhood

Since beginning our fiber network construction in 2019, we have now brought fiber access to most of Story City.  In 2021 and 2022 we  added rural areas of Story City along with Fraser and Ridgeport to our fiber network service area.  In 2023 we began expanding our fiber to include Roland, Randall, Jewell, and many rural addresses surrounding those towns.  In 2024, we are currently wrapping up construction in Roland and will continue working north towards Randall and Jewell.

If you are in our service area, check where your neighborhood falls on our coverage map. If your neighborhood isn’t included in our current or future service area, and you’d like fiber optic services from SMTC, let us know. Complete the form below as we’re compiling areas of interest for future expansion.

What Will My Fiber Drop Cost?

Story City, Fraser, and Ridgeport Residents

We have wrapped up our major construction in Story City, which means our crews who were plowing drops in town will be moving to start work in other areas in our exchange. We offered free construction of the fiber drop to anyone who signed up for it before June 1, 2021.  Even though the period for free construction has passed you can still get a drop, however you will likely be billed for some or all of the cost.  As the cost of construction of each individual drop fluxuates due to distance of the drop and and difficulty of installation, we will look at each drop request we receive and go over pricing with the homeowner before any construction actually begins.  If you complete the drop authorization below, you will be contacted by an SMTC employee to speak further about your drop and what the cost to you would be.  We will not proceed with construction without discussing the cost with you beforehand.

Roland, Randall, and Jewell and Nearby Rural Residents

Please note that current customers of Stratford Communications will be upgraded to fiber free of charge, no drop authorization is necessary as our new fiber network will be replacing the current coaxial plant that operates in Jewell and Roland.  If you're our customer at time of construction we will bring the fiber drop up to your house and complete the installation at no cost to you!  We anticipate our fiber network will be ready for installation in customer homes in Roland in March of 2024.

If you're not a current customer of ours, no worries! By authorizing a drop to your house before May 1st, 2024, there will be no charge for the construction. This does not obligate you to use our services, but gives you access, with no construction cost, should you want our service in the future. Even if you don’t have any immediate plans to switch providers, we would still encourage you to contact us with authorization to run the service to your property. Take a look at the services we provide when you’re ready to decide if SMTC would be a good fit for you in the future. To provide authorization for a drop please complete the form below.
